Digitizing Embroidery Designs

Embroidery is an art that has the power to make an attire look alluring and even expensive. Major names in the fashion industry makes use of it on almost every dress they make. People who wear embroidered dresses look elegant and stand out from the crowd. Since time unknown, decorating the dress has been practiced. Today with the help of modern technology, digitizing embroidery designs paved way for many new possibilities. There are no limitations today and whatever you think, can easily be embroidered. From pictures to abstract art to beautiful sceneries, a digitizer will digitize everything for your use.

Now there is no need to learn how to embroider by hand. It takes a lot of time and effort to complete a project by hand. Modern machines are capable to place stitches of all types within minutes. Through digitizing, even the most complicated design can be made ready to stitch. Even if you are not a brand but a home embroiderer, an embroidery machine is your requirement. To operate a machine, you need digitized files because they do not understand human language. Digitized files are actually commands in a language understood by machines. Thus, digitizing embroidery designs is the need of today and the future as well.

Digitize Your Pictures for Embroidery

For your upcoming project, use a picture or any artwork you like. There are no restrictions so feel free to choose any cartoon, animal or even a celebrity. If digitizing is at par, the result on fabric will be astounding. Although we mention digitizing a lot, it is not a simple task for the inexperienced person. One needs to have a proper understanding of a software designed for the purpose. There are a number of software available to choose from. You can start working on any of your liking there are no restrictions. Every software is designed to produce the same results i.e. digitizing embroidery designs.

Prepping to make a file begins with choosing a picture you want to use. If you are new to the field, you need to practice first. Choose a simple design that does not have a lot of background objects or anything in front of the main object. The reason here is, if you start working on an image with lots of clutter a lot of time will be spent on clearing it. Instead of spending time on removing all the unwanted stuff, choose a simple image. Your time spent on digitizing is more important than worrying about the unwanted stuff.

Picture Import

The fun begins after you have chosen a picture and imported it in the software. Once it is visible on the canvas of the embroidery digitizing software, you can start the process. Since it is the first time you are using the software, you need to make some adjustments to it. You will see a variety of buttons on your screen. They are placed to help you manage the settings for your design. Some might confuse you so it is better to use the internet to your advantage. You can learn about them from various mediums and of course by reading our detailed blogs in which we have discussed in detail.

Adjust Stitch Types and Their Length

To get the desired results make sure your settings are correct before beginning. It is always a good idea to start from the outline of your image. Moving from outwards to inwards is the correct way to digitize because it allows the machine to work freely. Now begin on the outline and place column stitches. The software you are using probably allows selecting multiple objects at once. Select and adjust by shrinking or widening to make a perfect fit. Always remember the underlay when adjusting the stitches. Do not stretch them too far that they get away from the underlay.

Underlay Settings Adjustment

When working on a picture from scratch, there are probably no underlay settings adjusted. An already digitized file certainly comes with the settings because the pervious digitizer has applied before. If you are working on a pre-digitized file, keep an eye open for the pull compensation. By adding some more stitches for the underlay you can avoid the frustration on the machine. Make it a habit to adjust underlay settings right from the start. Pro tip: work in three layers for a layered fill. Use 1/3 stitches for every layer which means if you are 12,000 stitches in total, each layer must have 4,000 stitches.

At Absolute Digitizing we always follow the three-layer rule. It helps our experts produce high quality files that are always appreciated by our customers. Work on Every Minute Detail

Large designs come with a variety of additional objects. To ensure the best quality, the digitizer must work on every minute detail. Maintaining consistency is necessary for a good finish and therefore surrounding objects cannot be ignored. Using the fill up option with textures gives the opportunity to make embossed fill in the background. While only the top layer is visible to the human eye, the other two layers are concealed. It also strengthens the design and gives an additional option to get creative with colors on the final sew. Layering the stitches will help keep the design intact and allow you to handle designs with ease.

The road to perfection becomes easy with practice and following a set of rules. Digitizing Embroidery seems an overwhelming task because people lose patience after a few attempts. To be able to work on easy and complicated designs, you need to practice and learn from the mistakes. Your ability to learn and your sense of perfection are the two things that define your speed towards success. Set goals for yourself and start with the simplest design. Challenge yourself with a bit more complicated design every time. With proper goal setting you can speed up your progress and become an equally skilled digitizer within no time.
